Jan Zychlinski (Bern) hat im Süd-Kaukasus das Schicksal von Geflüchteten dokumentiert, vertrieben oft im eigenen Landes, Opfer postsowjetischer Konflikte. Tankstellen als Zeichen einer Vergangenheit, die auch die Menschen geprägt hat. Symbole für Aufschwung und Mobilität – jetzt Ruinen. Das Leben vieler Menschen steckt in der Sackgasse am Rande Europas.
They stand like monuments of stagnation: gas stations, improvised or abandoned long ago. And people, abandoned or already giving up. Jan Zychlinski has documented the fate of refugees in the South Caucasus, often displaced in their own country, victims of post-soviet conflicts. Petrol stations as a sign of a past that has also shaped the people. Symbols of recovery and mobility – now ruins. Also the life of many people is in the dead end at the edge of Europe.
