Terminvereinbarung empfohlen.
In his paintings, Wolf Bertram Becker brings together specific places and memories, which he translates into a constructive visual language and reinterprets. His points of departure include the salt flats of Trapani in Sicily, as well as New York, the sea, boats, and Mount Vesuvius.
The respective motif remains recognizable, yet is condensed, shifted, and transformed into a distinct order of plane, line, space, and color during the painting process. A deliberately limited color palette reinforces the construction of the image and allows individual areas of color to stand out all the more.
The salt flats, in particular, demonstrate how a concrete impression of the landscape can give rise to almost abstract pictorial spaces: white becomes not only the color of salt, but also an open space, a void within the image.
Boats, Mount Vesuvius, and New York as motifs are less depictions of concrete objects and places than they are pictorial constructions in which perspective, framing, and color create a reality of their own. Much remains deliberately left open-ended. The exhibition runs through November 15, 2026. Closed daily until 8:00 a.m. Appointments are recommended.
